"In Remembrance" was born when, in 2003, Christy's pastor asked her to write an original song their church could sing in preparation for Holy Communion. "In Remembrance" became the first song she shared publicly, and, ever since, it has been sung by congregations around the world.
"In Remembrance" was originally written for a pastor to sing Verses 1 and 2 while preparing the Communion elements, with the congregation joining on Verse 3. The song can also be sung by a small group or choir during Communion or used when celebrating Holy Communion with a house church or in informal settings, such as at camps and retreats or while visiting the homebound.
Verse 1
Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night He was betrayed,
Took the bread and, as He broke it, gave thanks.
And He said, "This is my body, given for you.
Take now and eat in remembrance of Me."
Verse 2
In the same manner then, our Savior took the cup,
Blessed the wine and said as He held it up,
"Beloved, this is My blood, poured out for you.
Take now and drink in remembrance of Me."
Verse 3
Prepare us, oh Lord, to receive the bread and wine;
Cleanse our hearts, renew us in spirit and mind.
And may we gratefully honor Your holy truth,
As we come to the table in remembrance of You.
Lord, we come to Your table in remembrance of You.
